honestly, this is so important though. at 18, i had been depressed for so long that i was afraid of what would happen if it were to get treatment. “if this part of me goes away, who am i? will i still be the same me?” i was legitimately afraid of getting help for myself. your depression may shape you, but it doesn’t define you.

THIS IS SO FUCKING VALIDATING I CAN’T EVEN.

GETTING HELP DOES NOT MEAN LOSING CREATIVITY.

Let me repeat that, in case you weren’t clear: getting help - therapy, medication, self-care - does NOT mean losing creativity. I know too many fabulous creative people who lose themselves and their art to this nonsense.

so hey fun fact for anyone who wants queer history trivia: the first disco in Seattle was opened in 1973 and was a gay bar called “shelly’s leg” and it was named after a dancer named shelly who lost her leg in a confetti cannon accident and used the insurance/lawsuit settlement money to open a gay disco.

a) This is such a fantastic story that I wouldn’t care if it were made up, except that

b) upon further research, it does appear to be true

When did doing something ‘like a girl’ become an insult?

Watch the full Always commercial that seeks to answer this question.

The part that gets me is at the end of the commercial, when they ask one of the first ladies if she had a chance to do her demonstration of “running like a girl” over again, what would she do differently and she says, “I would run like myself.” I legit cried.
